Daisy used to think the shadows in her room were something to be afraid of — dark shapes stretching and shifting against her walls whenever the lamp flickered. But one night, a shadow shaped like a rabbit lifted one long, dark paw and waved hello.

Daisy sat up slowly, blinking in surprise. The rabbit-shadow tilted its head, wiggling its long ears, clearly waiting to see if she'd wave back. Nervously, she lifted her own hand and gave a small wave in return.

The rabbit-shadow hopped in delight, bouncing silently across the wall in big, joyful leaps. It turned out shadows were just shy creatures who loved to dance whenever the lamp light moved just right, too timid to come out unless someone was brave enough to notice them.

Daisy giggled and reached for her lamp, tilting it gently this way and that, watching new shapes bloom across the wall. Her curtains, swaying softly in the breeze, cast a shadow like a swooping owl, gliding silently from one corner of the ceiling to the other.

Her teddy bear, propped up on the pillow beside her, cast one shaped like a small, round bear giving the biggest, warmest hug. Daisy laughed out loud, delighted, as more and more shadow-friends appeared with every small movement of the light.

She spent a happy while making shapes with her hands — a bird, a fox, a fluttering butterfly — each one joining the quiet, silly dance across her bedroom wall. The rabbit-shadow hopped along beside them all, clearly the ringleader of this shadowy little party.

Once she understood the shadows were only playing, the dark didn't feel scary anymore. It felt like her whole room had filled up with quiet, gentle, silly friends who'd been there all along, just waiting for her to notice them.

Daisy yawned, her eyelids growing heavy, and reached to dim her lamp one final notch. The rabbit-shadow stretched out long and lazy against the wall, its ears drooping sleepily, matching her own tired smile.

She said goodnight to the rabbit-shadow, who tucked its ears down just like she tucked in her blanket, settling into stillness against the wall. Daisy closed her eyes, unafraid, knowing her shadow friends would be there in the morning too — and every night after that, whenever the light moved just right.
