Freya and the Gentle Giant
This is a sample story. Every Wispalo story is created fresh, starring your own child.
Freya wandered into a green valley thick with ferns and palm trees, and found herself face to face with a stegosaurus twice as tall as her house. She froze for a moment, heart thudding — until she noticed the way his big eyes blinked slowly, kindly, at her.
He looked friendly, if a little clumsy, and Freya soon learned exactly why. As he shifted his weight, his enormous spiked tail swung gently behind him, knocking over the very flowers he seemed to be trying so hard to protect.
"Oh no," Freya said, watching a cluster of delicate purple blooms topple for the third time. The gentle giant let out a low, sad rumble, clearly upset at his own clumsiness.
Freya thought for a moment, then spotted a scattering of fallen branches nearby. "What if we built a little fence?" she suggested, already gathering the sturdiest ones she could carry.
Together, they set to work — Freya arranging the branches carefully around the flower bed while the giant gently nudged the taller pieces into place with his nose. It took a while, with a few wobbly attempts and one very nearly-flattened fence, but eventually they stood back to admire their work.
The little flowers stood safe and proud inside their new wooden border, completely out of reach of any wandering tail. Other dinosaurs began to gather from across the valley — long-necked, gentle-eyed creatures who murmured in approval at the sturdy little fence.
As thanks, the gentle giant lowered his back low to the ground and let Freya climb up for one careful, wobbly ride across the valley. She held tight to his spiky ridges, laughing as the whole world seemed to rock gently beneath her, treetops and mountains sliding slowly past.
As the sun dipped low behind the mountains, painting the sky in soft oranges and pinks, the giant carried her back to the flower patch and curled up beside it like a great, sleepy hill. Freya slid down and settled against his warm, scaly side, feeling the slow rise and fall of his breathing beneath her.
She watched the stars come out one by one above the valley, the flowers safe in their little fence, the giant's steady breathing rumbling softly beside her like a lullaby. Freya closed her eyes, warm and safe against her new enormous friend, and let sleep carry her gently away.
